The benefits are plenty and of such import that taking a class
is greatly encouraged. These benefits are further magnified by
the students’ attitude towards learning and the teacher’s
empathetic attitude towards sharing her knowledge and experience.
These benefits include the following:
- Being able to increase the involvement of the expectant father
in the preparation of, in the actual and the after-the-childbirth
experience.
- Being able to enjoy an open and free atmosphere to raise questions
and doubts that cannot be readily or easily addressed to the OB-Gyne.
- Learning communication skills that will enable the couple to
establish a smoother and even a more intimate relationship with
the attending medical staff.
- Learning about what to expect in labor and delivery that will
allow the couple to welcome their childbirth with calmness and
composure.
- Attaining education in the physiology of labor and delivery,
and thus, enlightenment and confidence in the couples ability
to "give birth" as opposed to "having the baby
delivered".
- Learning about the benefits of gentle birth, breastfeeding and
infant stimulation.
- Learning, coping techniques like relaxation focal point breathing
& mobility - varied positions for labor and delivery.
